My recipe for bread and butter pickles
Equal parts apple cider vinegar and sugar ie..2 1/2 cups each 1 big palm full mustard seed...about 1 1/2 tbs Small palm full of celery seed...about 1-2 tsp Small palm full tumeric...about 1-2 tsp Small palm full of whole cloves...2 tsp Couple of pinches of red pepper flakes...my family doesn't like it too spicy.
About 17 cups of sliced cucumbers and 2-3 medium-sized onion. 1/4 cup of sea salt. 6 cups of cracked ice or small ice cubes. Combine these and weigh them down with a plate and something heavy. Leave them set for 3 hours. Drain and rinse in cold water well.
Combine vinegar, sugar and spices. Add in cucumbers. Cook on medium until steaming but not boiling. Put into sterilized quart jars until 1/4 inch from top...usually 4 works. Wipe rims of jars and cap with lids that have been simmered in hot water for a time and put in a water bath for 15 minutes.
Water bath....water heated to boiling. Add jars top off with more hot water until jars are covered. Simmer to medium boil for the alloted time.

What a beautiful picture, our mouth's are already watering. Though we can no longer do canning because of the weight of the caners when full. Nor is our kitchen set for it. To small and hardly any counter-space. So I must ask; what other things do you can now?
We still have cases of Elk, deer, Bear, Chicken, Turkey, Onions, Salmon, Broccoli, Carrots, spinach, cauliflower, Peaches, Apple sauce, that we've canned back in the 80's and 90's. (Long story) We finely gave away a pic-up full of jars to Sandra's Boss at the time, of losing my strength and Sandra's battle with Cancer. But we still raise a garden as much as possible.
How do you put pictures from your own albums? Have a great day all. Virgil

To put pictures on the forums you need to upload them to a website. I upload mine to Facebook since I share with my family and friends there. Then you open the picture, copy the link and paste it to the image uploader on the reply screen. If you need me to do a tutorial on it, let me know.
I also can apple sauce, salsa, jellies and jams. I will be doing pumpkin this year. Although I am debating on how to do it. If I want to can it, I will need a pressure canner...or I can freeze it. Not sure if I want to buy a pressure canner and from the sounds of it freezing it gives it a better flavor.
Edit: wow I have never had bear. What does it taste like? I love deer and buffalo. I had an uncle that took his boys deer hunting every year so we always got deer meat during the hunting season. I would die happy if someone gave me a truck full of canning jars. I will be praying for your wife.

Though I don't do Facebook, I do have other options I can try. As for Bear, probably the closest I could say was similar to Pork. The texture maybe a little courser.
Now as to Canning supplies, where I live it is not to hard to find Jars. And a good start is Salvation Army Stores, Goodwill stores, Saint Vinnie's or even the Gleaner's net-work close by. Same goes for the pressure Canners, though a used one should have the rubber seal changed for a new one. And watch the pressure gauge to make sure it is working properly. As for the Gleaner's; they are a local organization that goes out and harvests from gardens and farms fore the needy and yourself. A biblical concept by the way. Remember Ruth and Jewish laws about harvesting?
Lev 19:9 'Now when you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap to the very corners of your field, nor shall you gather the gleanings of your harvest. Lev 19:10 'Nor shall you glean your vineyard, nor shall you gather the fallen fruit of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the needy and for the stranger. I am the LORD your God.
Rth 2:2 And Ruth the Moabitess said to Naomi, "Please let me go to the field and glean among the ears of grain after one in whose sight I may find favor." And she said to her, "Go, my daughter." Rth 2:3 So she departed and went and gleaned in the field after the reapers; and she happened to come to the portion of the field belonging to Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. Rth 2:4 Now behold, Boaz came from Bethlehem and said to the reapers, "May the LORD be with you." And they said to him, "May the LORD bless you." Rth 2:5 Then Boaz said to his servant who was in charge of the reapers, "Whose young woman is this?" Rth 2:6 The servant in charge of the reapers replied, "She is the young Moabite woman who returned with Naomi from the land of Moab. Rth 2:7 "And she said, 'Please let me glean and gather after the reapers among the sheaves.' Thus she came and has remained from the morning until now; she has been sitting in the house for a little while." Rth 2:8 Then Boaz said to Ruth, "Listen carefully, my daughter. Do not go to glean in another field; furthermore, do not go on from this one, but stay here with my maids. Rth 2:9 "Let your eyes be on the field which they reap, and go after them. Indeed, I have commanded the servants not to touch you. When you are thirsty, go to the water jars and drink from what the servants draw." Rth 2:10 Then she fell on her face, bowing to the ground and said to him, "Why have I found favor in your sight that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?" Rth 2:11 Boaz replied to her, "All that you have done for your mother-in-law after the death of your husband has been fully reported to me, and how you left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and came to a people that you did not previously know. Rth 2:12 "May the LORD reward your work, and your wages be full from the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to seek refuge." Rth 2:13 Then she said, "I have found favor in your sight, my lord, for you have comforted me and indeed have spoken kindly to your maidservant, though I am not like one of your maidservants." Rth 2:14 At mealtime Boaz said to her, "Come here, that you may eat of the bread and dip your piece of bread in the vinegar." So she sat beside the reapers; and he served her roasted grain, and she ate and was satisfied and had some left. Rth 2:15 When she rose to glean, Boaz commanded his servants, saying, "Let her glean even among the sheaves, and do not insult her. Rth 2:16 "Also you shall purposely pull out for her some grain from the bundles and leave it that she may glean, and do not rebuke her." Rth 2:17 So she gleaned in the field until evening. Then she beat out what she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley. Rth 2:18 She took it up and went into the city, and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned. She also took it out and gave Naomi what she had left after she was satisfied. Rth 2:19 Her mother-in-law then said to her, "Where did you glean today and where did you work? May he who took notice of you be blessed." So she told her mother-in-law with whom she had worked and said, "The name of the man with whom I worked today is Boaz." Rth 2:20 Naomi said to her daughter-in-law, "May he be blessed of the LORD who has not withdrawn his kindness to the living and to the dead." Again Naomi said to her, "The man is our relative, he is one of our closest relatives." Rth 2:21 Then Ruth the Moabitess said, "Furthermore, he said to me, 'You should stay close to my servants until they have finished all my harvest.'" Rth 2:22 Naomi said to Ruth her daughter-in-law, "It is good, my daughter, that you go out with his maids, so that others do not fall upon you in another field." Rth 2:23 So she stayed close by the maids of Boaz in order to glean until the end of the barley harvest and the wheat harvest. And she lived with her mother-in-law. NASB Enjoy with Blessings Virgil

Ruth is my favorite old testament book. She speaks to my heart. Canning supplies are few and far between here. Mom did score some jars for me at the beginning of spring. Haven't had any luck since then.

Boy it's been awhile since I shared anything I have been creating. This is what I just completed. It will go under Mom's nativity scene.
