I'm not sure how all this works I just know I've tried many different ways to stop with no lasting results. I hoping this will work

Welcome to BG. What are you looking for in your overcoming journey? It would help us if we know something about you and your walk. What have you tried and why didn't it work?

Testimony time, all my addictions started in my early teens at the same time drink, drugs, smoking, P, M. Thru being saved and 12 steps I've been clean of the 1st three for 30 years. M doesn't seem to be a problem however I have been unable to get victory over P. I go to church regularly and am involved in RU. I've done various types of counciling and accountability partners, most of which has turned out frustrating at best. I know all the things I should and shouldn't do so to answer your question I'm looking for saved born again people to walk along side of me.

What are you doing on a regular basis to help you cope with your temptations and urges?
This journey isn't easy and it helps to have good coping skills to fall back on when the temptations are bad.

There you go! Good day Rical. Keep it up. With God's help, you got this!
By the way, congrats on Achieving 30 years sobriety from alcohol, drugs and smoking.
So you're in RU, eh? I think it's a good program. If you don't mind me asking, have you shared your struggle with P to them?
Nice to hear back from you.☺

I'm not a big fan of the RU program itself but the people in the group I go to are nice and have a heart to see lives changed .I do share with a few individuals but not with the group. As far as my walk goes I'm catching and stopping myself quicker when it comes to sneaking looks.

In one of his podcasts, mike and his friends mentioned the rubber band technique. Having a rubber band on your wrist, you snap it every time you catch yourself in lust. As archaic as it sounds, the concenus says it works surprisingly well especially in the first few months.
Mind if I ask, how long have you been sober from P?

I'll try the rubber band. Been trying to get clean for years, I'm just a couple of days this time.

Congratulations on the 2 days Rical. I mean it! That's 2 days you didn't use P and any day without P is a good day. Let's go for another day. Just take each day at a time. You can do this! With God's help you can and will. We're rooting for you.

Time to restart, day one. As the warm weather approaches the clothes get skimpier ( no excuse) I need to be honest with myself and others. No more looking to see what's under ladies clothes. The only thing computer blockers will do is slow me down. There are plenty of pornographic images walking around the mall (and sadly ) churches too. Jesus shows that when the devil offers/provides me something I'm to remind him that God has already made a better offer. I don't know if this is the place for it but a book that is transforming my approach to recovery is "Surfing for God " by Michael John Cusick .

Thanks for sharing and checking in Rical. Sorry about your setback. Just hang in there. Don't give up. Get right back on that horse and try again. With God's help, you got this! I have a question if you don't mind me asking. How are you defining your sobiety? I can understand that you want to work on maintaining custody of your eyes. But in the beginning stages, maintaining custody of my eyes and mind was completely overwhelming for me. So it was important that I focused on monitoring my use of P. From your sharing, I didn't understand clearly enough. You shared about your battle with lust. That's apparent. But it also seemed that you hinted about using P yesterday. Please expound on what happened yesterday so we can encourage you to set a plan of prevention. And I also got a chance to look into John Michael Cusick. He's the real deal! Got a chance to listen to one of his sermons this morning. Everything he shared was so spot on! Some of the things I got from it: That God is not so concerned about what we're avoiding or what we're doing. He's more concerned about our hearts. Addiction happens when we try to fulfill the desires of our heart with unhealthy. There's nothing wrong with desire, we just need to fulfill it God's way as opposed to man's sinful way. The link to the message is here. youtu.be/4GA32a-a52wNow, his book, Surfing for God, has got a lot of good stuff in it. And I was able to find some study questions here. www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://restoringthesoul.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Surfing-For-God-Study-Questions.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwjl4ZiRpdnTAhVH64MKHZAVDyEQFgglMAE&usg=AFQjCNHuJc6XXClxMhUzzjV7-icmYBchZA&sig2=getml61sOxB-CjAfm3WsMgWondering if you could do something. Seeing that I'm a believer of doing an action program, and not a passive one. Would you consider answering some of the questions and sharing us your answers? I would be delighted to see what your responses are. I'll take it a step further. I'll join in if you want. And we'll work on this together. What do you think? Thanks.☺

Quoting the title of Steve Gallagher's book, I define my sobriety by whether or not I am bowing to the alter of sexual idolatry . In his book Steve describes numorous ways of a acting out. Satan willnalways tempt me but I am working on not being a willing participant. As for aswering the questions in the book, good ideal. I will start another thread for that and let you know when I do. By the way
how is your walk today?

Today has been going well so far. No P, no MB, no lust.
Falling behind in the narrow door challenge this week so I want to catch up by reading to my girls, working out, reading my Bible, and making an outreach call today.
