Oh I know this song well.
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I Higher than I Higher than I Lead Me to the rock that is higher than I You're my tower against the foe
Hear my cry oh God answer my prayer Answer my prayer Answer my prayer Hear my cry oh God answer my prayer You're my tower against the foe.
Hide me in the shelter of your wings...

One of my very faves:
“Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts.” 2 Timothy 2:22 NLT
Run... Pursue... Enjoy....
RUN away from the temptations. Don't dilly dally... Don't handle it. We are clearly instructed to RUN. What do we do instead? PURSUE. Continually be in the pursuit of all things "Jesus." Go looking for goodness. Find it. Embrace it... but don't keep it all to yourself. Reach out to others and develop a sense of community. ENJOY the companionship of others who are like minded. Be free to laugh and love. Be free to live. Yep. This one is probably my favorite of all the verses. :-)

One of the first Scriptures I ever learned in recovery classes is the following: 1 Corinthians 10:13 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is unusual for human beings. But God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tempted beyond your strength. Instead, along with the temptation he will also provide a way out, so that you may be able to endure it

Thanks for posting that one, Jonathan. I had forgotten about that one. (Music to my soul.)

We are such silly creatures. God tells us exactly what we need to do to have true joy and freedom and what do we do? The exact opposite.
Our joy and freedom and strength lies in our relationship with our Creator. The whole book of 1 Corinthians is good meat for us sinners.

Amy, what you just said Is the very core of every addict. Rebeliousness! We like Paul know the good We ought to do but cannot carry it out. We know the truth to what will make us happy and we stubbornly refuse to do it. Why?

More about love...
“It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” 1 Corinthians 13:6-7 NLT
I love how this is positive focused... Today, it reminds me to look at the positives in my SO instead of feeling discouraged about his downfalls.

Jude 1:
20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
22 Be merciful to those who doubt; 23 save others by snatching them from the fire; to others show mercy, mixed with fear—hating even the clothing stained by corrupted flesh.[f]
24 To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.
Several good tidbits here. It talks about building up our faith, staying in God's love, showing mercy and tells us who can keep us from stumbling. So we build up our faith by staying in God's love and His love will keep us from stumbling. STAY CLOSE TO GOD!

We know the truth to what will make us happy and we stubbornly refuse to do it. Why? Boy if I had the answer to that question... Dear Father in heaven, help us to bring ourselves under submission to Your love. It is in Your love that we find true freedom, joy and forgiveness. Your love is what makes us whole and complete. Remind us of this when we rebel. In Christ's name I pray.

Matthew 5:28-30 "But I say to you, anyone who stares at a woman with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
29 So if your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one of your body parts than to have your whole body thrown into hell.
30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away from you. It is better for you to lose one of your body parts than to have your whole body go into hell.”

“After these things there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. Now there is in Jerusalem by the sheep gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew Bethesda, having five porticoes. In these lay a multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, and withered, [ waiting for the moving of the waters; for an angel of the Lord went down at certain seasons into the pool and stirred up the water; whoever then first, after the stirring up of the water, stepped in was made well from whatever disease with which he was afflicted.] A man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years. When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been a long time in that condition, He said to him, "Do you wish to get well?" The sick man answered Him, "Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming, another steps down before me." Jesus said to him, "Get up, pick up your pallet and walk." Immediately the man became well, and picked up his pallet and began to walk. Now it was the Sabbath on that day.” John 5:1-9 NASB Jonathan actually shared some of this passage with me in my thread in the wives group and I was just reading it again and God was speaking to me so much about how this can truly apply to someone who struggles with lust and sexual addiction. The man was an invalid for 38 years! I've shared before that this struggle has been part of my husbands life for 20 years and I think many men have this addiction for years and years. Then Jesus asks if he really does want to get well and the man shared he had no help from others, so then Jesus steps in and heals Him! And when Jesus is truly able to lead in the recovery process of someone who struggles with this addiction He is able to bring a complete healing. [Wow! God is really using this scripture to speak truth to me and I pray my husband will see Jesus' heart for him in this passage as well!

Yes and I'm thinking second our former confrontation (wink) In no way am I advocating castration or mutilation of the body. That too is sinful.

1 Peter 1: 13-16 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
