I was spending some time in the woods today, and it struck me how much Satan resembles a spider. He silently spins a web of temptation and then just waits for us to fly into it. He cunningly hides his web in a place where we can't see the strands, and then just waits...days, or weeks, or perhaps even years. But when the moment is right, when we are caught fast in a struggle against our inner desires, he swiftly comes and injects his venom into us. As soon as we hit that web, we start fighting and trying to yank ourselves out. But the harder we fight to break free from the sticky strands of his snare, the more we simply shake the web and alert the spider of our presence. And his venom...Oh, how much like a spider's venom it is! It hollows out our insides, leaving a withered, dried out husk. Lust sucks us dry, until all that is left is an empty shell of what we once were.
But another thing struck me as I was in the woods watching a spider's web. The translucent web may be nearly invisible in the shadows. As long as the web remains safely tucked away in a dark place, unsuspecting prey continue to fly into it. But what makes the web visible is the light. A ray of sunshine bursting through the trees will make a web sparkle. A beam of light from a lamp exposes the vile trap for what it is, and the spider goes scurrying away to hide itself. As long as we keep Satan's web of temptation safely tucked away in the dark corners and deep gloom, we will continue to fly into it. But God is light (1 John 1:5), and his word is a lamp (Psalm 119:105). We are commanded to "take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them," (Ephesians 5:11). Shining the light on Satan's web destroys its power. This means exposing the sin for what it is and removing all deception. We must tell the truth to our spouses, to accountability partners/groups, and, most of all, to ourselves.

I think that the we as addicts and significant others should have a place to post and discuss helpful bible verses for both sides of this addiction. I find this area to be lacking considering we are on a Christian based forum. So let's start to look at what the bible has to say to us on our walks.
James 1: 13-14
Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.
I am convinced that all sin and addictions start in our thoughts. I don't have a count on the number of times I have either given in or fought off my addiction due to my thoughts. What is sin but a choice to do wrong. Free will can be a royal pain in the butt most times.

What a wonderful testimony Steve. God is so good!
Your scripture made me do a word search on truth. Did you know that the gospel of John has the word truth in it 23 times? The most by far of any of the other gospels. There is good meat in that gospel. So what is truth?
John 14: 6
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
Christ is our truth. How do we know truth then? By seeking Christ and there is only one source for seeking Christ here on earth...the bible.
We are at war with two things while here on earth. They are Satan and our own selfish desires.
John 8:44New King James Version (NKJV)
44 You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it.
I am so thankful to our Lord for giving us the option to be adopted by Him and no longer be a son/daughter of this world.

Amy, this is the most creative idea I've ever seen in this or ANY forum. For me my favorite verse is about "True Love" and how it's supposed to be.
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 ESV

Came across this today. We are called to be holy and to ignore our former passions. Our former passions are from when we were ignorant. What passions are those? Anything worldly, selfish etc. Over and over the apostles tell us that we are not of this world and to stop acting like we are. Being double minded won't get us anywhere because it makes us lukewarm. What happens to the lukewarm church in Revelation? It gets spit out. I don't know about you but, I don't want to be spit out.
1 Peter 1: 13-16
Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
Revelation 3: 15-16
“‘I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Happier times yet I was ignorant. I highly recommend doing a word study on love in the bible. There are many different forms. I will always love these verses because this is what we are supposed to be...what we are to strive to be. It is something that I want to work towards.

Luke 7: 36-50
A Sinful Woman Forgiven
36 Then one of the Pharisees asked Him to eat with him. And He went to the Pharisee’s house, and sat down to eat. 37 And behold, a woman in the city who was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at the table in the Pharisee’s house, brought an alabaster flask of fragrant oil, 38 and stood at His feet behind Him weeping; and she began to wash His feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head; and she kissed His feet and anointed them with the fragrant oil. 39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited Him saw this, he spoke to himself, saying, “This Man, if He were a prophet, would know who and what manner of woman this is who is touching Him, for she is a sinner.”
40 And Jesus answered and said to him, “Simon, I have something to say to you.”
So he said, “Teacher, say it.”
41 “There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. 42 And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell Me, therefore, which of them will love him more?”
43 Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.”
And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.” 44 Then He turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Do you see this woman? I entered your house; you gave Me no water for My feet, but she has washed My feet with her tears and wiped them with the hair of her head. 45 You gave Me no kiss, but this woman has not ceased to kiss My feet since the time I came in. 46 You did not anoint My head with oil, but this woman has anointed My feet with fragrant oil. 47 Therefore I say to you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven, for she loved much. But to whom little is forgiven, the same loves little.”
48 Then He said to her, “Your sins are forgiven.”
49 And those who sat at the table with Him began to say to themselves, “Who is this who even forgives sins?”
50 Then He said to the woman, “Your faith has saved you. Go in peace.”
I love this story. It really explains why God uses the most broken of us to reach others....because they not only have been there and understand but because they love much.

I find it cool that the first person Jesus showed himself to after he was resurrected was a woman out of whom he had cast seven devils. He came to save, not to condemn.

Titus 3: 3-7
3 For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. 4 But when the kindness and the love of God our Savior toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit, 6 whom He poured out on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 that having been justified by His grace we should become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.
No matter how many good things we do it won't get us into heaven. Only belief in Christ can. So many people forget this or don't know this. The good works are manifested in us because of our love of Christ.
HS3 it is cool how God has used women. It's like He is thumbing His nose at Satan by using women in a profound way because Satan used Eve to orchestrate the fall. Men will always have headship but God has a special place for women also.

With all that is going on in my life. A friend sent me this passage. Psalms 61:1-3. Awesome scripture! I had to look it up. There is a song about it....a rock that is higher, a rock that is higher... I am thinking it's in the music thread. Psalm 61: 1-3 Hear my cry, O God; Attend to my prayer. 2 From the end of the earth I will cry to You, When my heart is overwhelmed; Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. 3 For You have been a shelter for me, A strong tower from the enemy.
