Pretty much all I listen to is Christian music, I am not a big fan of the mainstream rap and hiphop, and I like hearing music that makes you feel good not music that makes you angry and upset.
Right now my favorite bands are- Kutless, Building 429, Casting Crowns, Third Day, Pillar, Lecrae, Fireflight, Skillet and Trip Lee.
My top songs at the moment are-
'East to West' by Casting Crowns
'Set Me Free' by Casting Crowns
'Who Am I?' by Casting Crowns
'Here I Go Again' by Casting Crowns
'Dry' by Kutless
'Take Me In' by Kutless
'Searching For A Savior' by Building 429
'Fearless' by Building 429
'Tunnel' by Third Day
'Born Again' by Third Day
'Better Than Drugs' by Skillet
'Those Nights' by Skillet
'The Last Night' by Skillet
'Take Me As I Am' by Lecrae
'Praying For You' by Lecrae
'Breathin' To Death' by Lecrae
'You Gave Me A Promise' by Fireflight
'Wrapped In Your Arms' by Fireflight
'When Tomarrow Comes' by Pillar
'Smiling Down' by Pillar
'Holding On' by Pillar
If I had to suggest only 3 of these songs though, I would have to say 'Praying For You', 'Set Me Free', and 'Those Nights' are the best. If you get a chance to, check out the lyrics for these songs.

Wow... I've been hearing stuff how drum beats came from Voodoo, but never heard of the true purpose of it and where it came from. I agree, in that music effects behavior and that you can reverse a type of music in order to glorify God. Well, as for me, music is also a pretty huge part of my life. I listen to it almost all the time. What is interesting is the major change I've made in my music. When I was younger, for some reason I was really religious and didn't want to listen to any music other than the classical radio station. That really bugged my sister, who's older . Well sure enough that changed! I got exposed to dad playing some good Christian (and if not Christian, then positive and upbeat) oldies in the car, and I'm like "I like this kind of music!". I'm a huge fan of classic rock music, or just music from several decades ago and not within my lifespan. Then my friend dumped a bunch of random music on my computer, mostly random oldies, and I quickly began having favorites: Johnny Cash and Bob Marley at the beginning. Then I found an old Beatles compilation cd of their early years (before they went hippie and drug laden) and I quite liked that. Then I watched that psychedelic and somewhat controversial film "Tommy", and that made me a fan of the Who. I don't think Tommy is anti-Christian, I think it makes a great analogy, how a man becomes great, and sure enough starts getting all the glory to himself, but then his followers reject him, and he seems to turn to something or someone greater than himself, as seen at the end of the film. Anyways, then I became a fan of them, and I also acquired Bob Dylan's three born-again albums. I fell in love with those. It was classic rock but with a powerful Christian message. So time went on and I acquired more music, like Led Zeppelin and the Beatles hippie era stuff, which I, at the time, liked. By that time, I almost exclusively listened to classic rock. Then I began noticing some things. If I would listen to classic rock for a while, I just felt like I was getting heavy in my spirit, like I needed something better and uplifting. I prayed about it, and started to wean myself off of it. I wasn't entirely successful. Then, this past year, I discovered Larry Norman and the Jesus movement in the 60's and 70's and all the excellent Godly music that went along. Then I discovered Keith Green and Resurrection Band (those guys rock!) and Phil Keaggy and many others. Now I almost exclusively listen to them! Sure enough, I saw a change in how I listened to music. I couldn't listen to Led Zep anymore without feeling like a heavy feeling on me, so I got rid of them entirely (the guitarist Jimmy Page was deeply involved in the occult and Aleister Crowley). I've also stopped listening to the Who, though I will always have fond memories of Tommy. As of late, I've been searching for good classic Christian rock in order to wean my friend off of listening to Jimi Hendrix and Metallica and AC/DC. I exposed him to Resurrection Band, and he said he never heard Christian music like that, and he loved it. Nowadays, the only classic rock cd's I have are two Allman Bros albums and Tommy. I'm a guitarist, so I like to listen to guitar driven music. The rest of my cd albums are Christian . Not all secular classic rock is bad, but I'm certainly starting to lose interested in it. I never liked the Rolling Stones . Back to the real purpose of the thread! Sorry for straying off. I really like Larry Norman's "Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation" and "U.F.O/I've Searched All Around"And "What a Day" and "Take Me Closer" by Phil Keaggy... (those are hard to find nowadays, unfortunately) "You're Love Broke Through" and "You Put This Love in My Heart" and "Rushing Wind" by Keith Green, especially Rushing Wind. "Paint a Picture" by Resurrection Band. "Blessed" by Lazarus And I really like " It is Well" too. I like Jars of Clay's rendition of it on "Redemption Songs".

wow, snowblind, i love all those bands you mentioned. the only one i had not heard of was lecrae. i do plan on checking them out. i have to admit that i love hard music like pillar and skillet. it's not everyone's taste, but i get into it.
john, i completely agree that when you listen to secular music, it does affect you. that is why i try to stick with only christian. my son loves coldplay and he pressured my into listening it, i have to admit that i do like their music, esp viva la vida and beautiful world, but i don't listen to them much. your friend who likes ac/dc and the like might get into groups like skillet, pillar, the classic crime, and disciple. they are really great christian groups. it's funny, when i was younger, i thought the only christian music was old timey hymns, but god knew that wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea and he has allowed some very talented ppl to come up and share his love through their music.
be blessed guys!

Yeah I am more into soft rock and rap. My favorite songs from Pillar, Skillet and Kutless are the slower songs.
Lecrae is a hip hop artist, he has easy some of the best lyrics I have ever heard.
I used to listen to Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, Rise Against, Chevelle, and Bullet For My Valentine, but I realized that that music didn't make me feel happy. A friend of mine from gaming actually was the one that first introduced me to Christian music. He told me to check out the music on his myspace and the first song I heard was Take Me In by Kutless and that song really ment alot to me. I can't remember all of the lyrics right now, but I do remember that when I first heard it I felt like I was not alone and there are others out there looking for the Lord to accept them.

Just thought i would post some links to Godtube which is a Christian site that hosts appropriate media for all ages. This first one is a drama clip that is put on at youth conferences and such. For me i usually tear up when i see it as it seems reflect what i have done in life, make bad choices and get caught up in evil and Jesus will respect our free will. We of course are responsible for the consequences and it is not until i am exhausted and i end up humbly on my knees in repentance that i can start on the road to recovery. www.godtube.com/view_video.php?viewkey=ee73e63418003b47d7d5

Healer by Ten Shekel Shirt
Healer heal me
Savior save me
Maker change me
Lover love me
Cuz I'm so tired of living for
The kind of love
That only lasts for a while
The pain, the shame
Tear me up inside
Chorus:
So I fall on my knees
To get back on my feet again
And I cry out for You
Would You please speak to me
Healer heal me
Savior save me
Maker change me
Lover love me
Cuz I'm so tired of living for
The kind of love
That only comes and goes
But Your love
Your love lasts forever
Chorus:
So I fall on my knees
To get back on my feet again
And I cry out for You
To hear you speak to me
Yes I fall on my knees
To get back on my feet again
And I run hard for You
To enter Your rest

I just have to share the lyrics of this song... It's the best, we listen to it often as we continue with recovery. If you're DESPERATE FOR CHANGING your current life, FALLING EVEN MORE IN LOVE as you heal, LETTING GO OF ALL YOU'VE HELD ON TO such as porn, etc, COMPLETELY INCOMPLETE, but healing, HANGING BY A MOMENT because sometimes we all need help moment to moment or hour to hour, There's nothing else to lose ,There's nothing else to find , There's nothing in the world ,That can change my mind, because healing is the ONLY choice, the right choice...
it just fits!
HANGING BY A MOMENT
Desperate for changing Starving for truth I'm closer to where I started Chasing after you I'm falling even more in love with you Letting go of all I've held onto I'm standing here until you make me move I'm hanging by a moment here with you
Forgetting all I'm lacking Completely incomplete I'll take your invitation You take all of me, now...
I'm falling even more in love with you Letting go of all I've held onto I'm standing here until you make me move I'm hanging by a moment here with you I'm living for the only thing I know I'm running and not quite sure where to go And I don't know what I'm diving into Just hanging by a moment here with you
There's nothing else to lose There's nothing else to find There's nothing in the world That can change my mind There is nothing else There is nothing else There is nothing else
Desperate for changing Starving for truth I'm closer to where I started Chasing after you....
I'm falling even more in love with you Letting go of all I've held onto I'm standing here until you make me move I'm hanging by a moment here with you I'm living for the only thing I know I'm running and not quite sure where to go And I don't know what I'm diving into Just hanging by a moment here with you
Just hanging by a moment (here with you) Hanging by a moment (here with you) Hanging by a moment here with you

I thought this was a pretty good site to find Christian songs
www.christianrock.net
they have rock, praise, hardrock and hiphop. I just use the rock and the praise so I don't really know what the other two have to offer but it's still a good site.
