Nehemiah 8:9-10 (ESV) And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the LORD your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept as they heard the words of the Law. Then he said to them, “Go your way. Eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions to anyone who has nothing ready, for this day is holy to our Lord. And do not be grieved, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
There is a time to weep, and a time to rejoice in God's mercy and grace!
What does it mean, "the joy of the LORD is your strength."?

From what I am understanding about this passage, the joy of the Lord was there to strengthen them. The reason His joy was present was because the people finally understood their sins and were repentant. I am thinking if the people were like me repentance can turn into condemnation really easily and that isn't from God.

Yes, the joy of the Lord doesn't fit with an attitude of condemnation. These folks quickly moved from weeping over sin to rejoicing in God's grace and forgiveness!
So I must have Godly sorrow and move on! Satan is the accuser. GOD sets my feet on solid ground again and tells me "Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." (Gal. 5:1)

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
Psalm 23 (ESV)
Verses 1-5: for my day
Verse 6: for my future
Unbeatable! I need not be afraid!

odb.org/2018/08/30/the-house-on-the-rock/Yes, the storms will come. In our case, the storms of temptation. But thanks to God, we can build our house strong enough to withstand them, when we build on the Rock!

A busy day ahead today!
Bible reading - last 2 chapters of Joshua. This great leader's final charge to God's people, that they should hold fast to the Lord who had led them and delivered them every step of the way!

Thinking about a favorite promise - Proverbs 18:10
God's name - LORD - all caps for Jehovah or Yahweh - the Great I AM
His name, all that He is, is my tower of strength
It's a place for the righteous to run. At times, I know I'm not very righteous, but this is what God as called me to! In temptation I must rise up in God's strength and fulfill my calling!

None of us are righteous on our own. We are made righteous through Christ. Don't forget that Christ died to give us righteousness. Keep fighting!

Our pastor reminded us of this promise today. Actually he has told us in the past that it is his favorite Scripture.
1 Corinthians 10:13 (ESV) 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
There are times when the desire for evil seems to totally overwhelm us. All of that is Satan's lie. God's promise is sure!!!
Sometimes it could just be getting busy with things we're supposed to get done. Or maybe meditating on Bible promises. Or playing Christian music really loud. Or something totally different that God shows us at that time!

Happy Labor Day! (USA)
In spite of rain and flooding for some of us, we celebrate.
Posting every day is good for me. Not a guarantee of victory, but a very valuable tool in my box!
Titus 2:11-14 (ESV) 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

(never got the first email, so some mistake made) I continue what I have been doing. Steady as she goes; not a time to rock the boat.
Judges chapter 2 - a very sad story.
They needed, and I need, to stay with God over the long term. HE is the one who fights my battles!
