Hello- I am a 55 year old christian sex addict. I am married and have children and grandchildren. I have hidden my addiction for 40 years. I just recently came clean when my wife of 34 years discovered porn on my computer. I have prayed and prayed for healing in the past, and even considered castration. I am relieved i finally got caught and my dirty secret is out. I guess Jesus was just waiting for the right time.

Welcome!
Several of us are in our early/mid 50's, which seems a common time for people finally to give up and get serious.
So what sort of support are you getting to help overcome your addictive behavior? What we do is, after all, an addiction just as much as alcohol or cocaine, and most of us need just as much hard work and help as any other addict needs.
Again, glad you are finding your way into openness and recovery.
Tim M.

Tom,
I turned 55 last month. I too ran into pornography at about 15. Until I became a Christian in 1975 I didn't think anything of it. I liked porn and naked girls and that was "normal". Once I became a Christian the battle began.
Prior to giving my life to Jesus Christ I was a drinker, a smoker, a fornicator and a bar-room brawler. Growing up in Northern Minnesota in a hockey and mining town it was a fairly normal path. My life changed immediately. I quit smoking, quit cussing, quit going to the bars, quit fighting, and sleeping around. I even stayed away from pornography for a while.
But when you've been there a while something happens and one slip can be disasterous, as I soon found out. Pornography has plagued me ever since. I enjoyed a 5 year period of freedom that began about 12 years ago. But then I heard about pornography on the internet. I took one look. Just that one. And it has been 7 years of hell.
I found this in my research and it may help you to understand what is going on inside you.
I always recommend this site and I recommend it to you. www.drjudithreisman.com/archives/2005/12/senate_subcommi.htmlIt is testimony on pornogrpahy addiction in front of a select U.S. Senate Subcommitee and says in part: "It may seem surprising that, at this juncture, I should speak of "chemicals," when one might be thinking instead of "sex." But, in fact, modern science allows us to understand that the underlying nature of an addiction to pornography is chemically nearly identical to a heroin addiction: Only the delivery system is different, and the sequence of steps. That is why heroin addicts in particular give up sex and routinely compare their "rushes" to "orgasms."The pornography addict soon forgets about everything and everyone else in favor of an ever more elusive sexual jolt. He will eventually be able to find it only among other "junkies" like himself, and he will place at risk his career, his friends, his family. He will indulge his habit anywhere and everywhere, at any time. No one, no matter how highly placed, is immune. And like all other addicts, the pornography addict will lie to cover it up, heedless of risk or cost to himself or to others."
Tom, my brother, you can be free of this thing. I was free, and I mean totally free for 5 years. Temptation when it hit was never, and I mean never overpowering. God had given me the grace and the strength to resist. But when I voluntarily took that one peek it seemed as though I lost my ability to resist.
But, the wonderful news is that God, by His grace, has restored me. For almost 3 months I have walked in glorious freedom from even the temptation to look at pornography. Thank you, Lord!!!
I would love to say to you, okay brother, just do steps 1,2, and 3 and bingo, bango you are free. But, of course it doesn't work that way. I will say that I spent a great deal of time here. I read what a devastating effect this has on marriages. My wife, by God's grace, has been incredible in her support and understanding.
I also suggest that everyone go to www.shelleylubben.com Shelley is an ex-prostitute and porn star with an incredible testimony of God's goodness and the power of a transformed life. She will also reveal to you the truth behind the fantasy of pornography.
You will beat this addiction, Tom. We will all be praying for you.
God Bless,
Matt

Glad to hear you found some value there. So, how are you doing? We all know it is a battle. Keep the faith. God will give you freedom. I know it. Only believe.

Welcome TOM!
I pray that you will find the help and support here that I have.
I'm not in my 50's yet but a lot of days I feel aout 90. (Of course I never thought I'd make 30 in the first place)
I will pray for you and hope you are doing well
God Bless
