Hi, I recently came across Mike's book on grace while on Amazon. I know I want and need the accountability. I need help with taking more breaks from social media and breaks from my phone in general. I'm a 63 yr old Christian man with Same Sex Attraction issues. I'm also on disability for Major Depression.

Hello and welcome to Blazing Grace forum. The best help as you know is having a real, authentic and genuine relationship with the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Nothing else is more important than that because it doesn't matter unless we know the Lord and He knows us. If that is not a reality, then we are just hell bound in this life and when we pass.
I am not anything special and no one to fear but I also do know there is a "cheap grace" kind of a mindset which tries to justify our sins and not take it so seriously. If you look at Jude, some turn the grace of God as a license to sin. May it never be with us here. If you look at Revelations chapter 2 and 3, Jesus rebukes a lukewarm church, a false prophetess Jezelbel who is leading others into immorality.
If you look at John 8, you can see self-righteous religious guys try to stone an adulteress as if they were innocent.
We are all guilty of sins, and to desire a women or a man is sin in God's eyes and according to Matthew 5:27-30, it's very serious which can lead to hell. That is not a joke. Luke 16 tells a real story fo a rich man who neglected the poor and went to hell, and he was in torments.
now enough about hell and judgement.. what about God's love?
Imagine a soldier dying for you while on the battlefield, yet Jesus does way more than that. How much more grateful and serious should we also be who take the Son of God so lightly.?
Imagine someone giving you a heart transplant, yet the Lord, gave His own heart, mind, body, soul to die on the cross to obey the Father, still layed his life for the sheep.
If we really imagine and think, and see the Lord, who hates our sins, take our place on the cross, then we will be changed forever. If we simply believe we will be and can be forgiven, of our sins,, because Jesus is willing and able to forgive us, we will have salvation. If we hate our sins, and the sick satanic, fleshly nature, and our turn from our wicked hearts, and wicked imaginations and turn from worshipping the creation (body and humans) and forsake it, Romans chapter 1, we will find the Lord.
Seek the Lord while He may be found Call on Him while He is near Let the wicked turn from his way the and unrighteous man his thoughts and let him return to the Lord, for He will have mercy on him
(Isaiah) .

Hi Jacob!
Hope you come back here and post again. I think it is good to be accountable and this kind of discourse can really help. Praise God I've managed to find abstinence/sobriety from sexual sin (as Kevin said in another thread, AA and some others distinguish between this and 'recovery' - recovery being a whole 'transformation' of life into a life of joy and healthfulness, not just avoiding a particular sin) by making a rule about my entertainment options. Since you mentioned social media and the phone, maybe this could help you. It took me YEARS to get to a point where I was ready to say 'ok, no laptop AT ALL.' That two weeks happened about 5 years ago, and I was completely clean for two weeks. Then it's taken me another 5 years to get to the point of realising a) it's not the whole laptop, it's just VIDEO. And if I don't watch any video, I'm ok, and don't fall down the rabbithole of porn. And b) that does mean sacrificing old entertainment/ downtime options. Like youtube, twitter, etc. And c) it's worth it and necessary to me to make the sacrifice. Now, I don't even miss them, it is so worth it. So consider this: how would your life be without any social media AT ALL. Maybe worth a try! God bless you bro. Keep praying. I struggled with porn for decades with absolutely no progress. Now, I'm porn-free, praise God. Keep going!
