I have lived that many times in my own life. I get a good sermon from church (ever since I was a child) then come home, live for me, start to sin.....
or
I have a good marriage relationship with my wife....so I start to become 'forgetful' to read my Bible and pray, I figure, I'm ok, I'm safe now, the devil is not bothering me right now, let me watch some funny videos, or news, or youtube or hours of video games, and .....(I can't see it but it already happened).....a gradual fall, a small comprise, and now I'm more interested in the things of the world more than God, which is wrong for me and wrong for Christians, but we might reason, "well, it's not that bad" and we are listening to "not" the voice of God. God will always draw us back to Him and if this 'voice/thought/feeling' is making us do our own thing more and more...well, who do you think is really speaking to us....it's not God. God will remind us of God's Word, I think that is what Jesus meant when Jesus said.
so I have a small test for me.....
when a thought comes to me...whatever it might be
1. looking at that person with lust
2. thinking of that person with lust
3. some other sin
The Holy Spirit will teach me and remind me of ....
everything Jesus told me.
that is how I understand where the thoughts are coming from.
compare the thought with God's Word.
It's sad how I know this but fail to follow it.
Now I feel like a Pharisee who says things but does another...
Now I see who wretched I can be........
'What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in my sinful nature a slave to the law of sin.'
Romans 7:24-25

Paul said "Thank you God because you deliver me" ,,,,Oh God help me not to forget this. I am forgetful.
through Jesus Christ, I am delivered and so are you brother or sister. yes. God said it.
So why does Paul here say "in my sinful nature I'm a slave to the law of sin?"
Because our natural self apart from God, apart from God's truth, apart from faith in God, ....well, the flesh is weak, we can say "I will quit internet" (equivalent to gouge the right eye) but if the heart matter of lust is not dealt with (Prov 28:13, Psalms 51), our flesh will find some other way to act out (adultery) so ........
this is why Paul wrote
So I am dead to sin, but alive...
I can quote that to Satan and his demons and if it's not them, then it's my own thoughts....
'The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. ' 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ
