You might hear someone who has a few years of sexual sobriety. This is to say thst they have not acted our sexually. But Jesus has a different standard.
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.
Matthew 5:27-30 NKJV

If we put ourself under this holy standard how many days of sobriety do I really have if I count looking with lust as acted out?
If I am honest....every second look I take, any interest in another women is like committing the real physical act, therefore counts as sexual sin, which trumps any other standard as 'acting out
The point I am making is that even though I might have 1 year 10 months this does not mean that I am loving a holy life. I could easily lust and therefore sin so what is the use of me really keeping count of my outward sexual sobriety when God looks at the heart and can still cast me into hell if I look at a women with lust.
Just saying that my sobriety date doesn't mean much. I have sinned against God by committing adultery internally so I have to reset the date every time I lust.
