Hey everyone. I am creating this thread as a place to keep track of my successes as well as my failures in my battle with P and M.
Over the last several week, I have come to the realization that I have made freedom from P and M my goal. This should not be the goal. Having a closer relationship with the Lord should be my goal and should be what I strive for everyday. freedom from addiction is simply a mean toward the goal of growing closer to God. With that in mind, I have been asking the Lord to help me to change my life in such a way that there is no longer room for P or M. The Lord needs to be at the center of my life, not the desire for freedom.
I had a major slip up earlier today and so I am reseting the counter in my profile to zero.

Today we remember why we are forgiven and what a precious and costly gift our salvation is. Freedom from sin is not something for us to achieve, but an amazing gift to be realized and walked out every day with our Lord. You are on the right track. The Lord promises that if we draw near to Him He will draw near to us. Praise Him.

Slipped up pretty badly today. How can I always convince myself that the only way to get rid of the constant temptation is to give in. That always seems to be the excuse I give myself.

Hi Desperate,
It is amazing, isn't it? I mean, how we get tricked right before a fall. I've always told myself "this time, it'll be different", and "this time, I'll just realize I'm covered by the blood of Christ, so I just won't feel guilty", and this is my best one, "There is no condemnation in Christ", and a 1,000 other ineffective things... Of course, it's always the same. First, I buy the lie, then I fall, then, I'm immediately sick in my stomach! OUCH! Why did I DO that? A couple of minutes of "instant gratification", followed by a good length of agony. Geez, even my dog learns his lesson once he gets in enough trouble. How come I'm as smart as him? But, then again, I suppose that's why Jesus had to be crucified...to pay the price for all of our transgressions. I know you know that.
Honestly, I don't have any great words of wisdom here, but I just wanted you to know that I read your post and I feel for you, brother. And, I said something earlier today to someone else that I think applies to you, as well. If our huge and magnificent Father promises us that, because of Jesus, He has removed our sins "as far as the east is from the west", well, then, what right do we have to condemn ourselves? If forgiveness for our neighbor's transgressions is mandatory, so then, is forgiveness for ourselves.
Please allow me to say this, ok? God wants you to be free. Being close to the Lord is the worthiest of goals. But freedom is one of the benefits. "It was for freedom that we were set free..." God promises that you'll be set free. His Word guarantees it. It's not a question of "if", but merely "when". I know you'll get there.
I hope it comes soon for you.

Hey desperate, It's good to hear back from you again. It helps me to stay vigilant when it comes to plugging in to God, my friends at church, and my friends at BG. If you view my accountability log, you'll see that I carefully lay out a plan for achieving results. It's important that I demonstrate to myself and others that I'm putting something back into my life to replace the P and MB. And I also put a lot of effort in setting good boundaries to make my home a safer place. It's not easy, but it works. I would like to know what your plan is? What kind of boundaries do you set for yourself? What boundaries are you facing the most challege with? How is your spiritual life? On a scale of 1 to 10, what rating would you give yourself in this area? And what could you do to bring the score closer to a 10? What hobbies and dreams would you like to see yourself work on? How are your friendships with other brothers in Christ? Most of us PAs have no real friends. I thought some of these ideas might help you figure out what's might be missing in your life. Take care, and thanks for your honesty.
