Hi everybody,
I'd like to say that after 33 years of masturb. and porn addiction I'm free. It was Jesus who healed me and He still heals me on prayer and by vows. My sobriety period will have been 2 years next month. I work together with God's grace every day by prayer, reading God's Word, keeping vows /to not act out/, trying to live according to Gospel .. I'm not a slave of mast. and p. I don't feel any urges beside typical to everyone temptations. I used to masturb. to porn almost every day and in binge several times a day during many hours of watching p. It's my past now. In my recovery I have been using only means of faith. No terapists, psychologists, mwdicaments , my only doctor is Jesus.

Welcome to our forums dan. Congrats on staying sober! Isn't God awesome! We mess up our lives with sin and He is ever faithful to help get us out of it and heal our brokenness. I can attest to the fact that it is indeed wonderful not to be a slave to this addiction any longer.
I look forward to your becoming a part of our community and being a help and encouragement to our brothers that are younger in their journey to sobriety.

Greetings and welcome to Blazing Grace Forums. On behalf of the staff we are blessed to have you join us here. I know that our forum looks overwhelming because there is so much wonderful information on here. Please let us guide you through and make things as comfortable for you as possible. We each have our own stories of hurts, deception, lies and pain. Mixed into that however are our prayers answered and victories won. Here we celebrate the small steps each of us makes in our recovery. We encourage and support each other through the best and worst of times in each of our individual lives. Please start out by reading our Terms of Service section located at the bottom of our home page. If you have any questions feel free to ask any one of us. I'm glad to see you are well on your way to further recovery. Your experience will greatly benefit those who aren't where you are today. I look forward to seeing you around the forum.

Thanks Amy,
Your childhood compared with mine was much more horrific. I grew up in an alcoholic family, my dad was drunk almost every day . Therefore I felt fear , was very introvert...then at the age of 11 the first mast. after that pictures... It was my escape from suffering, inner pain....a very sweet escape which gave much more suffering , lost time, sea of fear..... a sweet poison from the evil. Jesus heals me, all my sobriety and the change in my life is His work. Every time I feel anxious, tempted, down.... if only I cry to Him then He rescues me, gives healing, strength, joy ... He is my medicine now instead of p. and m. .... often after some minutes of prayer I feel changed, healed...
God bless you

I know how that is Dan...growing up with an alcoholic. I am sorry you had to go through that. The fear of not knowing what and who you will encounter with the alcoholic from one minute to the next is horrendous. Do you run and hide or stand and take it...sometimes there wasn't time to choose. You get really good at reading the addict...that tone or that facial expression. My dad his eyes would pop out of us face and his face would turn red...and I knew to hide because he was drunk, angry and crazy.

Hello Dan,
Thanks for sharing some of your story and your victory. I can certainly attest that God can do what man cannot. So I can appreciate the fact that your decision to make prayer, reading God's word, and living according to the Gospel a priority played a big role in your success.
Congratulations on the 2 years. That's a great gift.

Thanks KevinsKay,
In matter of fact one element plays an enormous role in my sobriety - it's temporary vows given to God, vows not to act out for a limited time. My current limited time is next year in April but I started with vows for 1 hour then some hours then one day.... 3 days.... a week ..and so on. Every time I completed a less vow I started a bit longer one. I assume that you read about the known Irish from last century - Matt Talbott. When I read his recovery story I recognised mine own way - prayer, counting only on God, especially praywr at the time of temptation and vows. His first vow was for 3 months.Too long for addicts in my opinions because of the danger not to keep such a promise. Therefore I started in a little way ... then one has only one choice either death or keeping the vow, because breaking the promise given to God is a grave sin and great disrespect... so one has to keep the vow and pray so that God might give the grace to keep it to the end.

That's a wonderful way to overcome. Me, I also use my W.O.W. CARDS. They are little 3x5 index cards with scriptures on then about God's view on sexual recovery, forgiveness, impurity and immorality.
