I was wondering why there are so few people on this site when this is such a huge problem in the church and in the world. I haven't been to a lot of similar sites but I have been to Nofap. It is huge with 100's of people per day participating. I left because even though there was a Christian section and many Christians there I found the discussions there to be triggering and the site itself addictive. I have actually blocked the site because you can look at discussions without being a member. It seemed to me to be a case of addicts running the hospital with brand new members mentoring other newbies of the opposite sex. They were exchanging KIK and whatsapp accounts. That would never work for me. I know my weakness.
So why are Christians drawn to that forum which is mostly worldly and secular but not forums like this? I would be interested in your opinion and also what happened to this site that it almost closed.

Brave, I've asked this question as well as several of our male members. In answering your question one has to remember who we are dealing with. Men in General do not believe that this is a problem for them and others truly believe that they have a right to lust after women and fornicate, because after all we are men. Then you have the fact that men don't ask for help until they are so desperate that they have no other choice. If you look at the forums on here they are mostly wives posting about their husbands addiction. Saddly those same husbands don't join this forum for whatever reason. I don't know why it is this way. I'm glad that there are a few guys like yourself who have a clear understanding of how destructive this addiction is. Also I want to mention the fact that we do monitor this site heavily and our administration staff watches who and what goes on within our forums, private messsaging, and membership enrollment. I believe that we have a good handle on things. I hope it doesn't ever change. I would hate to see this site dishonor our commitment to God and to our members. Brave, I have to say that I have no clear cut answer as to why there are So few people on this site when the problem is huge and getting bigger everyday. In closing I will say this the deceiver is at work destroying God's perfect plan everyday and what better way for Satan to do so than with an addiction that NO ONE wants to talk about.

Brave I think you already answered your own question. That site is worldly, secular, tiggering and enabling. We are the exact opposite. Only those truly wanting permanent change will join this forums and stay.
I also agree with John. Most don't see this as a sin. To them it is ok. Others don't want to talk about it. Why sexual sin is uncomfortable to talk about where as other addictions are ok...I have no idea. But I have experienced this first hand. I actual had to change churches because my old church didn't want to discuss this issue and would change the subject to drugs or alcohol.
The sad thing is that a majority of men seeking counsel for this are ministers. Satan really goes to town on our leaders and teachers. That is why it is imperative that we keep our elders covered in prayer. It is not something we should neglect but I myself am guilty of forgetting this.

Maybe the Christians that go to Nofap feel safer there from being judged . To be fair and honest the main reason any man wants to quit porn is because of ED. Even the Christian men. It gets your attention more than conviction of sin I'm afraid.

Whatever it takes to get you on your knees, God will use it. I doubt every man has that issue but many do. Some have their rock bottom moments without it getting to that point.

Well according to the Ted talk The Great Porn Experiment , ED is the main reason young men are going Nofap. Most sex addicts value their performance with a woman as the most important thing in his life. That should not be the case for a Christian addict but I dare say in his fleshly sinful nature it is.

As a moderator you must hear why people leave. What have unhappy members expressed to you?

Actually we have grown quite a bit since I joined this forums. When I first joined we had 3 people that posted. Now there are more.
The nature of this addiction is overcome it or don't. Either way when that happens people leave. Only those called by God to help others stay long term. And we do have some long term people here.
If you read old posts, most that leave will say why. I encourage you to read them. Some gave up and rationalized their sin and some overcame and moved on in their life.

Hello everyone,
I think BG is getting a lot more activity than it has in a long time. But I do agree that the membership is very small compared to the millions of people that deal with this issue. Being a former member of SAA, SA, and SLAA, I found no shortage of members or meetings in these fellowships. So it really confuses me why BG never saw that kind of growth. A few things come to mind.
1) Addiction to P is still a very secretive, personal issue to most addicts. It's really hard for an addict to become honest and transparent, and then allow himself to be held accountable by other people.
2) If a PA relapses or slips, he/she often disappears and gives up. It's hard to quit P. And when the PA acts out again, discouragement sets in and the PA gives up. Of course, this starts a vicious cycle of shame, secrecy, ritualization, acting out, and then back to shame again.
3) Many PAs are turned off by the church. After hearing various, overly-simplistic sermons from the pulpit such as "Just stop it" or "Just cast it out" or "Just give it to God, and it will go away" or "Just receive God's healing and deliverance". I was angry at church and God for many years because I failed to find a solution to my problem there. God had to reach stretch out to finally reach me back. But I can see many PAs being completely discouraged by the lack of resources at church for such a common problem.
4) BG didn't evolve from a state of infancy for many years. It suffered lack of strong leadership for a while. It also faced various hostile attacks from hackers. One might sense it was like the blind leading the blind. I'm sure the Devil was working hard at keeping this ministry from taking off.
These is just my opinions. I've asked myself the same questions.
But I believe that we have a good thing going here. A former moderator here told me that I should just be faithful to God, and He will provide the increase.
Braveheart, you also asked why BG almost closed down. It was solely due to technical issues. Mike had spent a lot of resources to update BG to make it mobile user friendly. But after the upgrades, BG kept going down. Mike was ready to give up. But Amy saved the day by offering a solution to the problem. God used her to save BG!
And both Amy and John both heard about BG because they knew me from another forum, a forum that I was uncertain about whether I should have been part of. But God was amazing! And he worked in an amazing way to keep us together.

Thank you Kevin and Amy for taking the time out to discuss this issue. I appreciate your openness and honesty here. I hope that future generations of men and women will be able to come to this forum and find support through the most difficult of times. I agree that BG is a small ministry compared to the vast problem plaguing today's world but remember it took a small handful of devoted men to change the world. With many or with few God can do anything.
1Sa 14:6 Jonathan told his armor bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the garrison of these uncircumcised ones. Perhaps the LORD will work for us, since nothing prevents the LORD from delivering, whether by many or by a few.”

One asked why people don't come and get help for their addictions? Perhaps we should let God answer that question. Please read with me Matthew 13:15.
15 for this people’s heart has become dull, and their ears are hard of hearing. They have shut their eyes so that they might not see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart and turn, and I would heal them.’

Matthew 24:12 says " Because of the increase in wickedness, the love of most will grow cold." I just read Mike's blog and watched the video. It confirmed what I have been struggling with. The hardness and coldness of my heart that has increasingly crept in over the past 3 years or more. I would say the main reason most men aren't here that are addicted to porn is because of their hard hearts. They don't care. They are numbed out. Those of us that are here by God's grace still can feel the conviction, guilt and shame of our sin but I must say it frightens me every time I so easily fall back in while knowing the possible consequences. I can say I don't feel the pain like I did initially and that really concerns me. I want a soft sensitive heart that cares about my wife, my ministries, my testimony and hurting, broken people. If you sow to the flesh you will reap destruction. Any sane man would heed those words with reverent fear!

Brave I am glad you took the time to read and view Mike's Blog post. It really is an eye opener. I commend you for realizing where you are at with your heart and wanting to change that. Pray for that change. God is the only one that can facilitate the change you want but you have to be open to it. It will hurt. I can attest to that but the end result is fredom. You will always have to be vigilant to keep your heart soft and be open to the Lord's correction when you fail. I will add my prayers to yours. Keep leaning on our Father.

Good topic...maybe they are afraid of being Judged, ridiculed, ostrasized, and risk losing their family, Job, Pastoral position, Financial holdings, or material things such as a House due to Divorce.
I agree there is a HUGE problem that the Church and Christian men choose to stick their heads in the sand.
Fear of rejection is a biggie...I used to admire Jimmy Swaggart at one time...now I don't see him the same...he lost credibility in the eyes of the public.
People can say they don't judge but they do...it's human nature to talk about so & so's problem. The Gossipers love the fodder.
They look out in the congregation and think...there is the former drunkard, the prostitue, the drug dealer, and the pervert Porn addict.
That's why people don't come forward...no one likes to be singled out in the crowd as "Abnormal".
Just my take on this. I do wish more People would be on this board and talk things out. And hang out for a bit...intead of posting one time and never heard from again.
Probably they fell back into the pit and find it is a losing battle. The Spirit is willing but the Flesh is weak.
