We spent our honeymoon in Amish country for 10 days up in N. Wisconsin.
Then we had kids lol.
I think we're gonna go to the beach this fall when it's not so busy.

There is a documentary on NF called the Breaking Amish and how hard it is for people to leave b/c they get shunned for life esp. if they've joined the church. One man on the docu had been sexually abused by a male elder and had to deal with that. I think he then REALLY gave his life to Christ.
I think it focuses more on OT law that grace. And it reminds me of a cult. However, they make beautiful things all with a pedal sewing machine.

I think fundamentally there are a lot of really good people among the Amish. I'm sure if I needed care there I would get it. And it is good to see women being brought up in purity. Unfortunately there are wolves among the sheep here and by wolves I mean sinful men who have destroyed and completely mucked up what could have been a place of Purity.

One of the Amish guys gave us a ride in his buggy. Normally he said he wouldn't do that b/c he could get sued if something sent wrong. But he said he didn't look like that type of ppl.
I think the biggest things that concern me is that the women don't have the freedom and liberty to be who they want to be. My roomie in college took speech class with me and she did a paper on them and said they interbreed a lot or cousins marrying cousins. I know this used to be a common practice, but not anymore.
The author Janette Oke has written books about the Amish. I've read all of her books.
The sad thing is, if they are shunned, they can never see their families again b/c if the bishops finds out, they'll be be banned or condemned to hell. I think this sect really is just a push back from the industrial revolution where they want to stay in the 1800s.

BTW, it is so cold in Wisconsin, that on the day my hubby proposed, he was 40 below with the wind child. And that was just Thanksgiving Day so we had six more months of winter. He proposed in the car b/c it was too cold to walk in the park lol.
