I really like this new therapist. I ask direct questions and she gives me clear, concise, direct answers.
Questions I asked:
1. Will my "husband" ever be the man I dated? Answer: NO. The addictions have made changes to his brain and he will never be the man you dated. He may be better that the man you dated once he is truly in recovery. Only time will tell.
2. Will my husband ever be my emotional equal? Will he ever be anything other than 12? Will he mature at a faster rate than one year for every year lived? Answer: Yes. He will mature faster than normal, but he is going to have to experience all the pain that he was medicating to do it. Prozac will delay the process, but it is necessary if he was suicidal (he was).
3. If he recovers from intimacy anorexia, it will take 3 - 5 YEARS.
