Basically God has created an amazing array of neurochemicals in our bodies and brains, that are involved in our sexual desire.
These pathways we have built up over time are very deep-seated, BuT the good news is that our brains are very "plastic;" that is, new pathways can be built, so as to bring our sexuality back to God's original design.
This will take longer than my usual cycle of victory and defeat. The author suggests a 90 day journey for this. Probably not a one-size-fits-all, but a general idea. I know that my own sinful pattern has become very deeply ingrained. Nevertheless, there is hope, both from the Scriptures as well as in the very way God has created our brains.
An intensive look at Bible promises in the very time of temptation is vitally important for me.

In the last section, suggestions are made about this 90 day journey.
As we build new habits into our routines, they need to be pleasurable things, pathways that we want to build stronger. We are literally creating a new brain circuit with each one!
The old pathways are still there, but we are weakening them. We must beware that they are not totally gone. We must weaken the connection of that old habit and the idea that it brings relief (Satan' lie!).
Sometimes the greatest truths are the simplest ones. Consider the childhood story, The Little Engine That Could. As you may recall from your own childhood, it kept saying.... I think I can, I think I can, I think I can........ Optimism and positive thoughts in the face of challenges, and I would hasten to add, God's Word is full of these!!!!! And they are all true! We are to remember the rock solid promises of God! See 2 Peter chapter 1, first few verses. GOD HAS GIVEN US HIS GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES TO THAT WE CAN BE VICTORIOUS OVER THE WORLD AND ALL OF ITS EVIL DESIRES.
So this book brings us full circle. God, who authored the Scriptures, knew all about our neurochemical and brain makeup; He created it all!
The book of Ephesians is packed full of this powerful ammo. For now, let me just quote Eph. 3:16-17 from the NLT:
"I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit. Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong."
