I'm just starting out here. Been struggling with PA for years. I don't have any specific triggers, but it's more related to having opportunity, and stress reduces my ability to resist. I have a big "opportunity" coming up this weekend with my wife going out of town (each night after the kids are in bed), so I would like to ask for some support to help keep me on track. I'll check in every so often with how I'm doing.

Welcome webman!
I pray that you will find things that are meaningful to you, to help keep your mind on the right track.... according to your particular preferences, like maybe a good book, family movies you have purchased in advance, TV shows from the oldies channel.....
Yes.... do keep checking in.
Praying for you!

Are you a Christian? What is your concept of God?

So far so good, with no major temptations last night.
Thanks saved! It really helps to know that someone other than myself is praying for me.
I am a Christian, and I know that God loves me and forgives me, but wants better things for my life.

Thank you for the prayers. Last night went well too. My wife will be back tomorrow so I need to get through tonight. Not the long term war,I know, but I hope with the support here that I can make it through this weekend's battle.

Amen! You've come this far by faith!
Praying for a good sleep tonight and a blessed day tomorrow.
And, of course, the battle of this day IS the long term war!

Webman, welcome to BG. I am glad you found us.
Keep your focus on the battle of the moment. Do not get caught up in looking at the long term picture because you will get discouraged and give up. Just what the enemy wants. Each battle won or lost brings us closer to freedom as long as we continue our journey and learn from our mistakes.
Praying for you.

...followed by a setback this morning. Working from home today and my temptations got the better of me. I am determined to post the bad with the good though. Praying for forgiveness and strength for the next battle.

Yes, thanks for posting everything.
Satan won a battle, but he does not get the whole day. May our loving Savior encourage you and build you up.

It's been a while since I checked in. I've had some ups and downs, particularly today. Still struggling, but I want to get back on track.

Webman, are you spending time reading the bible and praying daily? It helps to start the day focusing on the truth of God's word. Your main weapon is scripture followed by prayer. I forgot that and my attitude took a major dive and I had a difficult time resisting temptations. Now I am getting back into that habit. There has been a big difference in my life.
I am praying for you.

I am doing a schedule to read through the Bible in a year, so yes, although it's frequently historical rather than inspirational, depending on what I am reading at the time. I have done this a few times before, reading cover-to-cover, chronologically, and now I'm reading a different translation than my usual NIV. I do pray daily, although I admit that it could be more intentional and deeper.
Thanks so much for the prayers!

I commend your ability to do a chronological study of the bible! I have not been able to do that. I tend to go off on tangents. I get so into a particular word or subject that I end up scouring the bible for all the tidbits I can find.
Something else you might want to consider, it has helped many of us here, is to write a verse down on a small card and carry it with you through the day. Then when you are battling an urge you can pull out your card(s) and read the truth.
