"14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:"
Praise God! A good friend of mine who is a recovering alcaholic 'puts on the armour of God' every morning. In other words reads this passage out loud.
I do remember how disillusioning it is when it seems like there is a 'cycle of failure', but my experience is that the Lord God really values persistance. And if we simply keep going, keep getting back up and trying, He will reward us with greater Victory, that is not of our efforts, but His blessing.

Yes.... day by day persistence! Sometimes we want instant deliverance, but since some of us spent a long time in slavery, may we learn to walk step by step with Jesus to come out.
In Proverbs, there is evil female (not a lady), who calls us to turn aside into her trap. But there is also a royal lady, Lady Wisdom, who calls us to come and learn from her!
Proverbs 8:32-36 ESV 32 "And now, O sons, listen to me: blessed are those who keep my ways. 33 Hear instruction and be wise, and do not neglect it. 34 Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. 35 For whoever finds me finds life and obtains favor from the LORD, 36 but he who fails to find me injures himself; all who hate me love death."

Sunday during drive time I was listening to Pastor Levi out in Montana (freshlife.church) --- I didn't get into this problem overnight, and I must not expect a quick easy fix. Day by day faithfulness!!! Learning to stay with Jesus through all kinds of days!!! Letting Him grow me stronger. Building HIs Word into my life.

Sorry you didn't get much sleep. Be extra vigilant today. Your urges will be stronger because of your lack of sleep.

Yes, so true, as Will also just wrote. Thanks to God it was a good day!
Starting Thursday having had a good sleep.... again, thanks to God.
"This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most."
(Heb. 4:15-16 from the NLT

Continuing that idea....
At those times of weakness, whether loss of sleep, illness, worries, whatever..... it can just wear us down. We must be extra careful to stay away from the pit.
"Happy are those who hear the joyful call to worship, for they will walk in the light of your presence, LORD" (Psalm 89:15 NLT)
See also a book by Sarah Young, JESUS CALLING. a page a day devotional where the author pulls us back to going through each day close to Jesus, no matter what's going on either in the world around us, or in our own minds.

Day Zero.
"All things are lawful for me," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful for me," but I will not be enslaved by anything. -1 Cor 6:12 ESV
Caffeine OK for most people, but not for me.

I gave up coffee because of my ulcers. I am surprised I don't miss it.

Yes, that is encouraging! I have to taper it down.
"... do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." -Phil. 4:6-7 ESV

Book, Extreme Prayer, by Greg Pruett: tiny book, important message.
There are lots of things we might pray for, including stuff that we might just like to have, but there are prayers for things that are very close to God's heart. He has given us some amazing promises about those things.
The struggles we are in here are very close to God's heart. God absolutely desires for us to win the victory over all forms of impurity, all of which are directly from the god of this world. God wants us to pray about those things, and believe Him for powerful answers. He wants to teach us to wait for Him, and to trust Him.

"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous man runs into it and is safe." -Prov. 18:10 ESV
Name - representing all that God is Strong - what I desperately need Righteous - that's what I want to be. This tower is my refuge of strength. Runs - flee. Go fast. Do not delay. Safe - the raging storm outside cannot weaken this tower.
