I thought this is a thought provoking article that goes with my thread about
child abuse in the denomination my hubby and I used to go to.
"Little girls in my church were sexually molested—although most of us never spoke up about it. Even if we did, we were told to “forgive†the men and boys who hurt us. “We aren’t perfect,†pastors like my grandfather would say, “but we are forgiven!â€â€”as if this excused everyone from examining the religious structures that allowed the abuse to continue.
This is why I’m worried about the answers that Jill and Jessa Duggar may give in TLC’s upcoming documentary about child-abuse prevention. TLC has partnered with two victims’ rights groups, Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network and Darkness to Light on the one-hour documentary featuring the Duggar sisters and other victims and families affected by abuse."
"But the abuse that apparently happened in the Duggar family wasn’t just about Josh Duggar—it was about an entire system of abuse. The Duggars followed the teachings of Bill Gothard, founder of the Institute in Basic Life Principles. Gothard’s literature spans everything from homeschool curriculums to counseling resources—including a worksheet for counseling victims of sexual abuse. In it, victims are asked to examine whether they were to blame for what happened. Although we don’t know if the Duggars used this worksheet, the fact that Gothard’s “counseling†incorporated victim-blaming helps to illuminate the religious environment the Duggar children are living in."

Four of the five IFB churches we were in had covered up sexual abuse of a minor.
The church we were married in, the pastor fired the school principal for having some
type of affair with a high school senior in the Christian school. No one knows if she was
17 or 18, but that doesn't matter. He was fired in front of the whole church and then the
church was told they couldn't talk about it b/c it would be deemed Gossip by God.
This pastor used to publicly shame my husband and I for missing church either in Sunday School or in front of the whole church. After I had my oldest, I didn't go to church for
over a month b/c of post pregnancy problems. When we came back, the pastor said
in front of the whole Sunday morning congregation, "it's about time you bring that baby to
church." My grandma said when they had their children, the moms and the babies stayed
home for six weeks.
Anywho, I wonder what part of porn played into Josh Duggars sexual abuse? I'm not saying all porn users b/c predators, I'm just thinking of Ted Bundy types. I think more victims will come forward about Josh Duggar and I think he'll pick his victims more carefully. I worry for his daughters. Women aren't much thought of in these circles. We are taught to "forgive and forget" sexual abuse. Forgiveness is right, however, it takes years to overcome sexual abuse. And one never forgets.
