Here are the Gaither Dudes harmonizing A Capella. I think this describes the Sweet Spirit we have here on BG. I love to listen to men harmonizing.

The dude who wrote Amazing Grace was a captain of a slave trading ship.

Here is the Amazing story behind his conversion and how he worked with William Wilberforce in the UK to abolish slavery.

The sluggish sailor was transferred to the service of the captain of the Greyhound, a Liverpool ship, in 1747, and on its homeward journey, the ship was overtaken by an enormous storm. Newton had been reading Thomas a Kempis's The Imitation of Christ, and was struck by a line about the "uncertain continuance of life." He also recalled the passage in Proverbs, "Because I have called and ye have refused, … I also will laugh at your calamity." He converted during the storm, though he admitted later, "I cannot consider myself to have been a believer, in the full sense of the word."

*Sorry for all the history lessons. I had to learn all this in music appreciation in Christian College. It REALLY shows how far God's grace goes. And I read some Scripture in my OYB that I want to post in the wives section that dovetails with that exact song.

And yes, it was SO sad what happened to Houston. She grew up Baptist and married an abusive druggie dirt bag and I wish she would have had the strength to get away from him. She still has the most amazing voice........ever.

I love the Gaithers. There is nothing better then seeing men step into their God given roles of headship which is expressed by these men and their love of Christ.
