Last year, PBS published the results of a survey by the Kinsey Institute. There were 10,453 respondents, 80% of who were men. When asked why they used porn, the top 5 reasons given were: 1. To masturbate and/or for physical release. 2. For sexual arousal. 3. From curiosity. 4. “Because I can fantasize about things I wouldn’t necessarily want to do in real life.†5. For distraction.
Your thoughts?

I can understand these results but I wonder where the reason "because I'm addicted" came in that list? I also wonder whether porn is really accepted as a addiction in the real world?

Addiction equates with the habitual -- behaviour that becomes routine i.e. an established frequency that quite often increases rather than levelling out. We generally wind up in habits because we choose to practice certain behaviours that offer pleasure/satisfaction/release - some of which are real while some are but imagination.
"Addiction" is not the reason we use porn, drugs, alcohol etc. habitually -- addiction is the awaiting result of using/doing something we believe will deliver us a better experience than the last experience which is, of course, a fallacy that most addicts fully understand. Christ said it best, " He that sins becomes a slave to sin."

Just a lot of double-talk from a psychologist who is deep into "mental alchemy " i.e. trying to spin what is socially disgusting and ruinous into something to be seen as valued, like gleaming gold.
Isn't it strange that Dr. Ley denies that porn is an addiction but then makes the contradictory statement, "...people who struggle with the high frequency use of sexual stimuli..." Doesn't "struggle" and "high frequency use" equate with addiction??

It is strange and that is a valid point. It concerns me that so many people who are considered authorities on subject matter such as this, write articles that have "contradictory statements". It just feeds the struggle that so many are having, and some can take it as validation to continue down a very destructive path for themselves, their wives and marriages. I remember you keeping up on the stats and thought it was very interesting and disturbing article. It contradicts all that I personally believe is healthy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Your thoughts? according to Romans, they worshipped the creation rather than the creator so I would say, we turned away from God to worship/become addicted to/become in love with/become enslaved to/ our own body parts and flesh which is idolatry. We have a god called "sex" and that is the truth.
